Children’s Stories Written By Kids, For Kids
“I Write” short-story anthology
CALLING ALL AUTHORS AND ARTISTS!
The Read3Zero Literacy Foundation in association with LongTale Publishing is pleased to announce the 5th Annual “I Write: Short Stories By Kids, For Kids publishing contest for kids grades 3rd through 12th.
This is a great opportunity for children who have dreamed of seeing their own story or artwork professionally published in a book. First round short story and book cover design submissions will be accepted during the months of December 1st 2013-May 1st 2014. Once the Finalists are announced in July, they will have until August 31st to resubmit any necessary revisions of their short story and/or artwork for the book cover. Grand Prize Winners will be announced on-line on the Read3Zero Website and published in the Anthology. All winners will receive one complimentary copy of the anthology.
- Stories will be divided by grade categories. Stories must fit between the 1,000 and 2,000 word-count requirements. Registration form and typed story must be mailed to READ3Zero. Each story will be judged on creativity, correct word usage, and will take into account whether the writer includes a setting, at least one main character, story plot (beginning, middle, and end), conflict, climax, and resolution. READ3Zero promotes positive values and lessons within its stories, so students will be encouraged to (please) use proper judgment when writing and developing their stories. LongTale Publishing only publishes stories with good moral values. All stories must be written in English.
- When typing your stories please use Times New Roman Font, 12-point size, and black ink. Please make sure your Story Title and Name is centered at the top of your first page. If you would like to illustrate your story, please include your illustrations on separate pages, not inside your typed document
- Finalists will have critiques sent home for final drafting/editing by the publisher prior to publication. Final Stories and any scanned illustrations must be emailed as a Microsoft Word Document file (the finished story) and pdf file (artwork) to Melissa@LongTalePublishing.com once the finalist has been chosen for publication. You are not required to submit artwork. Finalists’ stories will be judged and later professionally edited by the staff at LongTale Publishing. The panel of judges consists of members of the Read3Zero “I Write” Team.
- Winners will be asked to submit a head shot photo for the back of the “Meet the Author” section in the book. If you do not wish for your child’s headshot to be in the back of the book for professional recognition for their accomplishments please inform the publisher.
All students, grades 3~12, at the time of submission
